Enrolment Information
We love welcoming new members to our team here at Southbrook School. If you live within our school zone then you have the right to attend our school upon application of enrolment. If you live outside of our enrolment zone then you will need to apply to the school for an ‘out-of-zone’ placement – if any places are available. Contact the school office to enquire about this.
To assist us with planning and preparation it would be great if you could contact the school and pre-enrol your child/ren at least 8 weeks in advance of their 5th birthday. This then gives a chance to organise our whānau meeting with you and two pre-start visits that help with orientation to our school and allows everyone to meet and sort out specific requirements and needs.
We have two New Entrant intakes each term – Week 1 and Week 6.
When you do arrive for the first day in the class, you are welcome to stay a while, but we would ask you to use your discretion about going, should your child begin to be unsettled.
Over the first week after your child starts as a Year 1 (if starting in Term 1 or 2) or a Year 0 (Term 3 or 4) they will finish school at 2.00pm. Experience has taught us that this assists in overcoming tiredness and that children are usually not able to concentrate fully during the afternoon programme. It does not take them long to become fully fledged ‘big’ school children and we always are flexible around these arrangements as we understand that each child is different.
