We are Aoraki the Year 7 & 8 learners, the seniors of Southbrook Kura. We aim to have our students stand tall, reaching for the sky (Aoraki is renowned for this) as they climb the mountain and become more independent.
We aim to foster a team environment where ākonga feel safe and recognise that they have value, we succeed together and others matter. Our learning is centred around our 3-Kete with an emphasis on self-management, student-led initiatives and achieving our personal best. Ākonga are encouraged to take individual responsibility for their learning and behaviour in preparation for high school and beyond.
Students are given many opportunities for leadership such as Head Students, House Captains, Student Council, Enviro Group, and Sports Academy. These roles enable them to become leaders in our school community.
It is really rewarding watching our learners grow in the two years they spend with us. They experience a variety of challenges but are rewarded with many successes through perseverance. It is only through these processes that we all truly learn. Kia kaha!
