We are Aoraki, the Year 7&8 learners, the Seniors of Southbrook Kura. Our name evolved from the fact that we are the tallest learners in the school. We aim to stand tall and reach for the sky, we know that Aoraki is renowned for this.
Under the lee of Aoraki sits our three local mountains, Otarama, Tawera and Maukatere. In recognition, each of our whanau groups are named after these landmarks.
Our Senior students support our school community through their many responsibilities. They act as leaders in groups such as our Kapahaka, Performing Arts, Sports, Student Council, Enviro groups as examples. We have a great relationship with the wider school through activities like Learning Buddies where each of our Senior students works with a Junior School student to assist them with their learning goals.
Currently we have 3 hard working teachers in the learning space working alongside our amazing learning support teacher across the 5 days of our school week. Our learning is centred around our 3-Kete with an emphasis on self management and reaching our personal best. The encouragement from everyone is to have more student agency, which means actually taking greater individual responsibility for our own learning. This is in preparation for future years of learning.
